Crowns and Bridges Hoppers Crossing

Dental crowns and bridges are devices that are capped over a partial tooth or implant and are cemented in place by your Hoppers Crossing dentist.

Gaps left by a missing tooth cause the nearby teeth to shift. This can lead to gum diseases and TMJ disorders.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that fit over the top of a damaged tooth. With a crown, we can:

  • Restore a large filling when there isn’t sufficient remaining tooth
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Restore a fractured tooth
  • Attach a bridge
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
  • Cap a tooth that had root canal therapy
Crowns can be made of various materials, from strong and durable metal for the back teeth to beautiful (but still durable!) porcelain for the front teeth.

Modern dentistry materials have given us the ability to create beautiful, strong crowns for any teeth. In most cases, the process to design and install one only takes two visits spaced about a week apart.

Dental Bridges

Instead of repairing and protecting a tooth that is already there, a bridge is used to help restore missing teeth. For this, two crowns are placed on the teeth on either side of the gap, and these support prosthetic teeth to close the gap. Bridges can be fixed or removable, and they can even be supported by dental implants to provide better results.

Our team only manufactures quality restorations, ensuring they are beautiful, natural-looking, and long-lasting. If you’re tired of dealing with dental problems, give us a call today, and you’ll have your original smile back in no time!

Dental Crowns & Bridges Procedure

Your first visit

Your Hoppers Crossing dentist needs to shape the teeth to provide a sturdy anchor and precise fit for the final restoration. After preparing the tooth, impressions are taken, and a replica of your mouth is created to make the restoration.

You and your dentist will discuss the colour, shape, and size of the crown or bridge. A temporary restoration is worn to protect the prepared teeth and maintain the space left by the tooth until the new restoration is manufactured.

If an implant-supported restoration is the best option, your dentist evaluates the ‘patient’s health and suitability for the implant placement.

On your next visit

Once the crown or bridge is fabricated, your dentist will remove your temporary restoration, and try on the crown or bridge to verify the fit and your approval. Once the restoration is adjusted and approved, your dentist will use an adhesive bonding agent to permanently secure the final restoration.

How to take care of your restorations

While restorations are made to last, they sometimes come loose or fall out. The most important thing you can do to keep your restorations is to practice good oral hygiene. A bridge can lose its sturdiness if the teeth or bone holding it in place are infected.

Keep your mouth healthy by brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing daily. Also, see your Hoppers Crossing dentist regularly for check-ups and cleans.

To prevent any damage to your new crown or bridge, avoid biting and chewing hard foods, ice, or other hard objects.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do crowns and bridges last?

These restorations usually last up to 15 years. This can be reduced if you don’t take of them properly and allow periodontal disease or cavities to develop.

Do I need to undergo a root canal therapy before getting a dental crown?

It’s not typically necessary to get a root canal therapy before getting a crown. However, you will need to have a crown installed to cover a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy.

Can people notice that I'm wearing dental crowns or bridges?

Crowns and bridges are made to look natural, making them indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
